Weekly Principal Message

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School with important announcements:

  • School starts on August 18 with Transition Day for our ninth graders. Grade levels 10-12 will return on Tuesday, August 19. On Transition Day, ninth graders will meet their teachers, experience new classes, and routines, and start the 2025-2026 school year with success! We look forward to seeing our ninth graders only on August 18 and all students together on August 19!

  • We will continue our division-wide implementation of Responsibility Centered Discipline (RCD). Our school-wide foundations are Respect, Engage, Prepare! This initiative is part of our commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.

  • Please take a moment review and discuss the FCPS Cell Phone and Personal Device Policy with your student before the first day of school. 🔗 FCPS Cell Phone and Device Free Policy

  • We are excited to let you know we’ll be using ParentSquare to communicate with you. ParentSquare provides a simple and safe way for everyone at school to connect. You can use ParentSquare on any device by downloading the free mobile app.

  • Please remind students no hats, hoods, do-rags/scarfs, bonnets, blankets. Students who have a religious or medical exemption will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty Principal of James Monroe High School with important announcements:

It was wonderful to welcome our 9th grade students back for transition day. Tomorrow we will welcome back all students. As we embark on this journey together, we have a few important reminders for students and parents:

  1. Yondr Pouches:

    • All 9th grade students, please remember to bring your Yondr pouches to school tomorrow.

    • Ensure that your cell phones are off and stored in your Yondr pouch before entering the building.

    • Any 9th grade student who did not receive their pouch will be provided with one tomorrow morning.

    • Grade levels 10-12 be sure to bring your Yondr pouches from last year tomorrow. Please report to the designated table based on your last name upon arrival. If you need to replace your pouch, please bring $30 to school.

  2. Schedule Changes:

    • The last day to request a schedule change is August 22. This is a correction to the date in the newsletter.
